How it works

Smart Answers searches your cabinet for documents that match the criteria in your question, reads those documents, then combines the information into a clear, structured response. The response includes citations showing which documents were used.

You don’t need to select any documents. Open Legal AI Assistant, ensure“Search NetDocuments” is checked, then ask your question.

When to use it

Finding documents that mention a specific name, term, or phrase

What to expect: A synthesized summary pulling from documents that mentions the project, not just a list of hits you'd have to open one by one.
Identify documents that mention the Riverton Expansion Project and provide a detailed summary of the key updates across the documents.

What to expect: Several real examples pulled from across your cabinet, so you can see how different agreements handled it instead of relying on memory or one precedent.
Find multiple examples of how sports endorsement agreements handle fees for late payments.

What to expect: One consolidated view of a client's issues and updates, even if the relevant documents are scattered across multiple matters.

Ask a question

Think of a question you’d normally answer by manually digging through documents Instead, ask the Assistant by copying and pasting a prompt from above, or by writing your own.

Read the answer, check citations

You get a response identifying the specific information you asked for, along with citations linking back to the exact location in your document. Then verify your answers, the citation takes you there in one click.

Tips for Better Searches:

  • Name specifics the AIcan search on. "Documents that mention the Riverton ExpansionProject" works because it gives Smart Answers something concrete to matchagainst; "recent project documents" doesn't.
  • Say what kind of answeryou want, not just the topic. "Provide a detailed summary of keyupdates" tells Smart Answers to synthesize, not just list matches.
  • If you're not gettingwhat you expected, narrow it. A client name plus a specific issue or date rangewill surface more relevant documents than a broad ask across everything youhave access to.
