Question Blocks

To build great apps, understand the types of questions available in PatternBuilder.

Short text questions allow users to input brief responses, typically a few words or a sentence. These questions are ideal for collecting names, email addresses, or short feedback.

Long-text questions are designed for detailed responses. They are perfect for open-ended questions where users need to provide explanations or elaborate on their answers.

Yes/No questions, also known as boolean questions, offer a simple way to collect the responses. Users can only choose between 'Yes' or 'No,' making it easy to analyze the results.

Data tables are binary and do not recognize the Yes/No answers. If data is transferred to a data table from your app, remember this when creating your data tables. Use a different type, such as a drop-down type.

Checkboxes allow users to select multiple options from a list, while radio buttons restrict them to a single choice.

Both types are useful for questions with predefined answers.

Drop-down questions provide a list of options from which users can select one.

Comboboxes combine a drop-down with the ability to type a response, offering more flexibility.

Drop-downs are helpful for long lists of options, ensuring a clean and organized interface. Comboboxes are ideal for providing a list but also allow custom entries.

Number questions allow users to input numeric values and use them for calculations or comparisons.

Date and Time questions let users select a specific date or time from a calendar interface. These are good for collecting quantitative data, such as ages or dates of birth. They ensure data consistency and accuracy.

Row selector questions allow users to search and select a row of data from a table. This is useful for applications that need to reference specific data entries.

Users can type to search for the desired row, making it easy to find and select the correct data.  

The list selector provides the user with a dropdown (not a search field) where they can select an option from one of your list variables.

Upload File/Images allows the users to upload a single file to the app.

Range is a number-type variable that allows the end-user to select a value from a range of numbers. For example, you can use this to collect feedback on a scale from 1 to 10.

Email allows you to require the app user to enter in a response that includes traditional email formatting.

Password stores an encrypted string masked with an asterisk (*) symbol when the end-user enters their response.
