Legal Citations Verification App

The Legal Citations Verification App streamlines citation verification for litigators by automatically identifying every legal citation occurrence in a brief or memorandum. It covers cases and non-case authorities alike—including statutes, regulations, rules, and secondary sources—so you can see precisely what has been cited, how often, and how it is being used without manually scanning the entire document.

The user selects the brief or memo for review and the app runs a high-recall pass over the full text, automatically excluding TOA blocks. It normalizes each authority (including reporter, court, and year, with party-order locking for cases) and links short forms such as Id., supra, and hereinafter to the correct full citation. The resulting verification report is grouped by authority category and, within each authority, displays the normalized citation, total occurrences, and usage summaries with supporting quotations and evidence parentheticals listing pincites, signals, zones, and sample locations when visible.

From there, the app can optionally produce a deduplicated list of cited authorities for cite-checking workflows, making it easy to pass a clean list to research attorneys, librarians, or support staff. Both the grouped verification report and the roll-up list can be exported and dropped directly into a cite-check packet or review checklist, helping teams organize and track follow-up work. By automating extraction, normalization, and basic usage reporting, the tool reduces the risk of missed citations or inconsistent use of authorities while freeing time for higher-value legal analysis.

Key benefits include:

  • Eliminate manual scanning of briefs and memos for citations.
  • Ensure short-form citations are correctly tied to their antecedents.
  • Provide a clear, grouped view of how each authority is used in the document.
  • Supply a clean, deduplicated authority list for cite-checking.
  • Improve consistency and defensibility of citation practices across matters.

The Legal Citations Verification App gives you a structured, exportable view of all cited authorities and their usage so you can run more efficient, accurate, and defensible citation checks.

Extract, normalize, and summarize all legal citations in a brief or memo to generate a verification report and a cite-check-ready list of authorities.
